Don’t let dental anxiety prevent you from getting the necessary dental work you need for a healthier, more beautiful smile. Patients of all ages may experience anxiety around visiting the dentist. Some patients have had a bad or painful experience with a dentist in the past, while others struggle with dentists who are in their personal space. Whatever the reason, the team at Smile Texas is here to help. Sugar Land, TX area patients can ask our team about the benefits of using sedation dentistry to make each trip a positive experience.
What is sedation dentistry?
Sedation dentistry is the completion of dental work while the patient is sedated to calm them before and during their appointment. Patients who avoid scheduling dental appointments for fear of visiting the dentist’s chair are great candidates for sedation dentistry. At Smile Texas, we are pleased to offer a few different sedation methods for patients to choose from. They include:
- Nitrous oxide – this gas is administered through the nose and allows patients to feel calm almost immediately upon inhalation. This is a great option for those with mild to moderate dental anxiety.
- Oral conscious sedation – for an appointment using oral conscious sedation, patients will be prescribed an oral medication that is taken prior to their appointment time. Patients using oral conscious sedation need to be transported to the practice. They will arrive awake, coherent, and able to answer questions and follow directions.
- IV sedation – twice a week, we offer IV sedation for patients with moderate to severe anxieties. IV sedation uses a sedative that is administered into the bloodstream. It is administered and monitored by an anesthesiologist who visits our practice specifically for our IV sedated patients.
